A ToiletKing guide for Northern Virginia homeowners
Shopping for a new toilet can get technical fast. G-MAX, TORNADO FLUSH, INTEGRAVITY: the names tell you something about the engineering, but what you want to know is whether the toilet will work well in your bathroom.
At ToiletKing, we help our neighbors in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and nearby Maryland compare the options, then handle delivery, professional installation and haul-away. Whether you are replacing a toilet in Arlington or planning a bathroom upgrade in Ashburn or Fairfax, this guide will help you make sense of TOTO’s flushing systems.
Our advice: start with the exact model. Its flushing system, water use and fit all matter. A WASHLET bidet seat adds personal-cleansing features; it is a separate part of the decision.
G-MAX
What distinguishes it: Gravity flushing with a wide flush valve and siphon jet.
Water use example: UltraMax 1.6-GPF version
E-MAX
What distinguishes it: High-efficiency gravity flushing.
Water use example: Entrada: 1.28 GPF
TORNADO FLUSH
What distinguishes it: Two nozzles create a swirling bowl rinse.
Water use example: Drake 1.28 GPF version, Glaston: 1.28 GPF
INTEGRAVITY SYSTEM
What distinguishes it: Coordinates bowl rinsing and the siphon jet in a timed gravity flush.
Water use example: Aurora: 1.0 GPF
DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH
What distinguishes it: Flush water is directed entirely from the rim.
Water use example: Aquia IV: 1.28 / 0.9 GPF
3D TORNADO FLUSH
What distinguishes it: Three nozzles create a swirling bowl rinse.
Water use example: Connelly: 1.28 / 0.9 GPF
Dual-Max
What distinguishes it: A choice of full and reduced flush volumes.
Water use example: Depends on the model

Depends on the model
GPF means gallons per flush. These are manufacturer examples for specific versions. TOTO model families can have different flushing systems and water-use ratings, so confirm the model number before ordering.
G MAX gravity flushing
G-MAX uses gravity, a wide 3-inch flush valve, a large trapway and a siphon jet to move waste out of the bowl. The trapway is the curved passage that carries waste toward the drain. The 1.6-GPF UltraMax version is one example.
When we compare options with you, the gallon rating is one part of the conversation. Bowl shape, seat height and the space available in your bathroom also help determine the right fit.
E MAX high efficiency gravity flushing
E-MAX is TOTO’s high-efficiency gravity flushing system, using 1.28 gallons per flush. The Entrada, model CST244EF, is one example.
A 1.28-gallon flush uses 20 percent less water than a 1.6-gallon flush. That is a water-use comparison, rather than a measure of cleaning performance. We recommend looking at both before you choose.
TORNADO FLUSH bowl rinsing
TORNADO FLUSH uses two nozzles to send water swirling around the bowl. That circular motion helps rinse the bowl’s surface as the flush removes waste. The Drake 1.28-GPF version and Glaston both pair TORNADO FLUSH with CEFIONTECT ceramic glaze, a smooth surface designed to help reduce waste sticking to the bowl.
Comparing those two? Explore the TOTO Glaston if you prefer its fully skirted exterior. The flushing system and the toilet’s exterior design are separate features, and both deserve a look.
INTEGRAVITY SYSTEM in the new TOTO Aurora
TOTO’s new Aurora features INTEGRAVITY SYSTEM, a gravity-fed design that uses two valves and a nested tank. Separate water paths serve bowl rinsing and the siphon jet, with water pressure controlling their timing.
Bowl rinsing begins first. The jet flush follows to create the siphon action that carries waste out of the bowl. Aurora also uses TORNADO FLUSH bowl-rinsing technology and CEFIONTECT glaze; these features work together on the same toilet.
TOTO describes Aurora as a 1.0-GPF toilet. Its two valves coordinate one flush; they do not give the user a choice between two flush volumes. If Aurora is on your shortlist, compare its complete features and bathroom fit alongside that water-use rating.
DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH in the Aquia IV
DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH directs all flushing water from the rim, combining bowl rinsing and waste removal in a circular flow. Aquia IV versions equipped with this system include dual-flush models using 1.28 gallons for a full flush and 0.9 gallons for a reduced flush.
With the TOTO Aquia IV, you choose the full flush for solid waste and the reduced flush for liquid waste. Check the exact model’s specifications, because water volumes can vary between versions.
The useful comparison with TORNADO FLUSH is how the water moves through the bowl. The name alone cannot tell you which complete toilet is best for your home.
3D TORNADO FLUSH
3D TORNADO FLUSH uses three nozzles to create a swirling rinse. Selected Connelly models combine it with a 1.28-gallon full flush and a 0.9-gallon reduced flush. This is another model-specific design you may encounter while comparing the wider TOTO range.
Dual Max and Double Cyclone
Dual-Max describes TOTO’s dual-flush approach: the user chooses between two water volumes. A dual-flush toilet may also have a name such as 3D TORNADO FLUSH, which describes its bowl-rinsing technology. Double Cyclone is TOTO’s former name for TORNADO FLUSH. Use the current model specification sheet to confirm what you are getting.
Where WASHLET and WASHLET plus fit in
WASHLET is TOTO’s bidet-seat technology for personal cleansing. WASHLET+ combines a compatible toilet and WASHLET seat with concealed water and power connections. Adding a WASHLET does not change the name of the toilet’s flushing system.
Automatic flushing is another separate feature: it describes how a flush is activated. TOTO offers compatible configurations in which an automatic flush operates a TORNADO or DYNAMAX TORNADO system. Confirm whether it is included or requires an upgrade.
If you are considering a WASHLET upgrade, plan for the seat’s power requirements as well as toilet compatibility. ToiletKing does not install electrical outlets, so any needed outlet work should be arranged separately.
Choosing a toilet for your Northern Virginia bathroom
For an Arlington condo, share any building access or scheduling requirements when planning your installation. In a townhome or single-family home elsewhere in the region, the bathroom’s layout still matters: a toilet needs to fit the room, not just your wish list.
Before choosing your next throne, consider:
- The exact model’s flushing system and gallons per flush.
- Rough-in, bowl size and clearance around doors and cabinets.
- Seat height and everyday comfort.
- WASHLET compatibility and electrical preparation, if you want a bidet seat.
- Delivery access, installation timing and removal of your existing toilet.
A lower water-use number can be appealing, but it should sit alongside these practical considerations. We can help you compare the options before you order.
Frequently asked questions about TOTO toilets
Which flushing system does the TOTO Aurora use?
Aurora uses INTEGRAVITY SYSTEM, which coordinates bowl rinsing and the jet flush through separate water paths. It also uses TORNADO FLUSH bowl-rinsing technology. TOTO describes Aurora as a 1.0-GPF toilet.
How do TORNADO FLUSH and DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH differ?
TORNADO FLUSH uses two nozzles for a swirling bowl rinse. DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH directs all flushing water from the rim for bowl rinsing and waste removal. Compare the exact toilet model and its water-use rating as well as the system name.
Does a WASHLET change the toilet flushing system?
No. A WASHLET adds personal-cleansing features to a compatible toilet. WASHLET+ describes the coordinated toilet-and-seat configuration with concealed connections. Automatic flushing, when included, is a separate feature.
Does ToiletKing install TOTO toilets in Arlington?
