4 Things to Do With an Old Toilet You No Longer Need

Are you getting rid of your old toilet? If you are, then you’re going to want to know what you can do with the toilet once it’s been removed. Old toilets can’t be thrown away very easily. Having a plan of action for getting rid of your old toilet can help you with your toilet upgrade. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Take It to a Landfill

Taking your toilet to a landfill is one of the choices available to you, provided that your community has a landfill. Not all communities have landfills, so you’ll want to research the nearest landfill and be sure that you’re able to take your toilet to it.

If your community doesn’t have a landfill, you can also find the nearest solid waste transfer station. These stations are designed to accept waste and transport the waste to the nearest landfill. Contact the station or landfill ahead of time to confirm details and be sure that you’ll be able to take your toilet there.

2. Contact Your Sanitation Company

Some sanitation companies offer curb-side pick up of large items for disposal, like furniture, toilets, and more. Contact your sanitation company to find out if they will pick up your toilet. Usually, there’s a charge associated with picking up waste that won’t fit in your garbage bin, so if you’re worried about how much this will add to the bill, find out before placing the order.

3. Turn it Into a “Planter”

You don’t have to throw your old toilet away at all! Toilets can make wonderful planters – both the bowl and the tank. Clean out your toilet thoroughly before placing it on your lawn in a pre-selected location. Fill the toilet with potting soil, then plant trailing flowers into the new planter.

Over time, your trailing flowers will cover the sides of the toilet and obscure its shape and character. Growing the right flowers in your planter, you may not be able to tell that your planter was once a toilet!
